    Blue Bottle Coffee originated in Silicon Valley, USA as a boutique coffee with a special focus on the Fresh quality of the coffee, and was founded by W. James Freeman in Oakland, California in the early 2000's. The name “Blue Bottle Coffee” was taken from Europe's first coffee shop “The Blue Bottle Coffee House”. The first coffee shop in Europe. Blue Bottle Coffee has locations throughout San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area, and opened its first location in New York City in 2010. Blue Bottle Coffee sells lesser-known coffee varieties such as Gibraltar (a type of Gordo). In San Francisco, its main competitors include Four Barrel Coffee and Artisan Coffee, and in September 2017, Nestlé, the world's largest food and beverage company, acquired a majority stake in Blue Bottle Coffee.On 25 February 2022, the first Blue Bottle Coffee in mainland China arrived in Shanghai.
